2. How to Deactivate the NexCruise

2. How to Deactivate the NexCruise

Do you know that you can bypass the entire processing of NexCruise conveniently whenever you need?

What is the Activation and Deactivation of NexCruise?

When the NexCruise is configured to do its job by modifying the Accelerator pedal signal that goes to your car, we call it an "activated" device.

When, instead, it is bypassed using one of the methods explained later in this article, we call it "Deactivated".

When it is deactivated, the signal that originates from the A-pedal of your car directly goes to the car's ECU. It is exactly the same as how your car is without NexCruise.

The following illustrations show this concept:
This is how the NexCruise is working in normal operations
This is when the entire processing chain of NexCruise is bypassed: The A-pedal signal directly goes to car's ECU without any modification.

How to Deactivate NexCruise

Your NexCruise will look like one of the following two models (both models are otherwise the same in terms of features and capability):

a) NexCruise model with a "Deactivate" button

Note the small grey switch at the bottom right corner. This is the activate/deactivate button for your NexCruise. When you press it, it rests in one of the two positions. "Pressed" and "Extended". Note the details below:

Switch position
Description
Function of NexCruise
Pressed
When the button is in its pushed-in position, we call it pressed.
In this position, the NexCruise is "Activated", that is, it is configured to intercept and possibly modify the Accelerator pedal signal.
Extended
When the button is popped-out in position, we call it "extended".
In this position, the NexCruise is "deactivated", that is, it doesn't intercept the signal coming from Accelerator pedal, and directly passes the incoming signal onto the car's ECU.

Never manipulate the activation switch without turning off the car, and letting its electronics turn off!

b) NexCruise without a deactivate button

In this case, your NexCruise will not have this button, but you will have received a "bypass connector". The NexCruise and the bypass connectors are shown in the photo below:

If your NexCruise resembles the photo above, to bypass the NexCruise, unscrew the Port A and Port C cables, and join them together using the bypass connector (the tiny jointer shown above the NexCruise main unit in the pic above).

Don't do any cable-related operation without first turning off your car, taking the key out and waiting for the car's electronics to turn off.

Notes for when your NexCruise is deactivated

  1. Your car's Accelerator pedal wiring is restored to its original condition (A-pedal directly connected to VCU).
  2. Any and all effects of NexCruise go out of the picture.
  3. The lightbar shows an error pattern (all five LEDs will be glowing, with the STATE LED glowing in RED). This happens because NexCruise electronics no longer receive the input from the Accelerator pedal and think there's something wrong. You can ignore this error when the NexCruise is deactivated.
  4. You might want to deactivate NexCruise for a variety of reasons: like before giving the car for servicing, or for debugging.
  5. After you deactivate NexCruise, you can remove the OBD cable and the car will still be drivable.
  6. You can reactivate the NexCruise by turning off the car and pressing the activation button again.
